The hoagies: The hoagie was probably invented by the Italians who worked at the Hog Island shipyard in Philadelphia. Cured pork meats, provolone, and a few veggies (lettuce, tomatoes and onions) dressed in olive oil and vinegar stuffed between thick oblong breads was a popular and handy meal for these laborers. The Sarcone’s bakery at Philadelphia’s Italian Market, they say, makes the best hoagie bread in the world. So make sure to grab a hoagie roll the next time you visit Philadelphia. But until them, come to 3Dog Deli for a fresh baked hoagie that’s served with an assortment of meat including smoked turkey, smoked bacon, pulled pork, pulled roast chicken, and topped with gooey cheddar or Swiss cheese.
The Californian: Although there are many types of Californian sandwiches, the quintessential Californian one includes a combination of avocados and alfalfa sprouts served on multigrain bread. The other variations include those where sprouts are substituted with lettuce and tomato- a classic BLT, but with avocados. At 3Dog Deli we serve it the traditional way- with smoked turkey and bacon, avocados, alfalfa sprouts, French dressing and garlic mayo on multigrain bread.
